Machiavelli Personality Test

I saw this personality test linked from Digg.com. It shouldn’t be a surprise to most that I scored towards the high end of the scale with a 77. Not totally Machiavellian, but up there.

The funny thing is, I really do think that people read more into “The Prince” than is really there. My impression from reading it is the real point, when you get down to it, is “people will act in their own best interests”. Assume this, and you will end up being less disappointed most of the time. The question truly becomes a question of whether a person views there self-interest at a macro level or a micro level. I would argue that those that look at the macro level are more likely to get ahead in the long-term. Unfortunately, most people look at their best interests from a macro perspective. I think this is the problem with most politicians.
